First off, I just want to say, for everyone who stuck along side me, for those
who gave me advice, pointers and always kept my spirits positive with my racing
endeavors this year, thanks for the support guys! :) it was ONE HELL of a
weekend.
Sunday
I
was gridded second row, position 2 on the second wave of a 3 wave start,
Heavyweight Clubman, Middleweight Clubman, and Lightweight. The Heavyweight guys
go out, and finally were up. The 2 card goes sideways and I let the 636 rip from
a deadstop like I never have before, the front is floating in the air and just
as I hit 2nd, the guy gridded next to me wheelies so high, he had to
let off and it starts to fall in my direction. I didnt flinch. We passed all the
750's before turn one. I had to pass the last 750 at the apex of one, but he
took turn one pretty tight. I knew that if I didn’t stuff it up the inside, I
was gonna have to wait, and the racers behind me were gonna have a nice view of
my ass. So I stuck it, they had to check up but I needed to get by. I was
reeling in 2nd and third when Frankie, (14 yr old supermoto champ who just got
approved to race in the AFM), comes by and as we come up turn 4, one of the
636's in the front of this 1st through 4th train highsides
into orbit. As we all came around for lap two, we caught the tail end of the
heavyweights! The two in front of me were getting closer, until I hit traffic in
the bus stop. I knew I had a good position so I played smart especially after
that crash. I got stuck behind a slower 999, and had to wait, till the exit of
the bus stop to get on the drive. He took a wide line, so I had to readjust my
line to get him on the hill. I finally got around him, and put my head down to
be consistent but traffic from the lightweight class was starting to play on us.
I could see #1 and #2, but they were starting to gap away from the clusters of
lappers. I was finally starting to catch back up on #2 as he was starting to let
Frankie get away, but he got out of shape at turn 3, letting me by with an easy
2nd place. Frankie was gone! We come by the white flag and Frankie and I were
settled nicely in our positions. The checker was definitely nice to see. :) I
gotta say, it was definitely one hell of a weekend. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Frankie, last year was
new to road racing and I helped him with race lines at Buttonwillow back in
August, only to become my competitor in 06! Is that awesome or what? Next race is thrown in with the
experts so it’ll be even MORE fun! Cant wait, but I gotta recuperate the
pockets and most of all get the bike back into 100% working order. I have to
say, I couldnt have done it without these IMPORTANT individuals behind us:
Special thanks to Gary, Jodie and [all] at RPM
Cycles - whom without their help I couldn't get a great helmet, road race
gloves (Fulmer helmets, Cortech Scarab gloves, and Oxtar
TCS Evo race boots, which held up EXTREMELY
well in my crash btw) and of course helps me put the rubber side down with
sticky Pirelli Dragon Corsas on the 636.
GALFER
Not to mention April, for putting up with me wasting money to go crash the bike
over and over again and fixing her back up. coming home after all that crap and
still being able to settle into 2nd and bring home a plaque was way worth it. I
love you.
Thanks for the support guys and reading this...
